Sure – they hadn’t been over in a few months. It would be nice for the two groups to catch up. The test was simple. Take the Johnson County Bank backup tapes to Grant County Bank in Ulysses -- pop them in Grant County’s tape drive… Restore the files to a standby server. Make sure everything looked good. Call it a day. Three hours including the drive there and they’d be home for dinner. Well, not quite. Three hours later six people had the backup tape drive completely torn apart on the floor of Grant County’s Conference room. Two other people were trying to find software updates. Everyone was trying to figure out how they were going to get the stuck tape out of drive without destroying the data. That was the tipping point. Something had to change.
By chance, as the Executives at Grant and Johnson County Banks were desperately trying to save the transaction data for the last 30 days, the Community Bankers Association of Kansas (CBAK) was hearing their members ask the same question again and again. “Can you please help us find a company that can help us with our server backups?” Those pleas, along with Johnson County’s Tuesday afternoon tape drive fiasco, resulted in CBAK interviewing a small group of “Offsite Backup” Service Providers. Within a few weeks they had narrowed the 10 possible companies to one. Storage Solutions Group was chosen as the exclusive provider of Remote Data Backup for the CBAK Member Banks. The criteria were simple. If a loan officer loses any file or directory, all of her current files have to be back on the server in less than an hour. Storage Solutions Group demonstrated this during a trial with a simple software install and one phone call. No staff running around. No looking for software upgrades. No tapes.
CBAK requires all client files and data be restorable within 24 hours. Storage Solutions Group guarantees in writing that simple files can be restored within 30 minutes and complete data replacement by noon next day. Member Banks needed a “hands-off” backup system. It had to be easy to use with no special expertise or training. Storage Solutions Group manages the entire backup process. They also perform daily reporting and system upgrades. The State and Federal Banking Examiners enforce strict data encryption and Internet security. Storage Solutions Group owns and manages all of its Backup Data Centers. This allows them to guarantee the highest level of physical and network security.
Gaylen Pelton, Senior Vice President, Grant County Bank, Ulysses, Kansas says “The Storage Solutions Group Offsite Backup Service let us implement a system that uses the most current backup and recovery systems available, without the expense normally associated with developing and maintaining an internal solution. As a community-based bank, that plays a critical role in our ability to provide the types and degree of service our customers need in a manner that preserves the bank’s financial strength and system-wide security.” According to Brian Marcuzzo, President of Storage Solutions Group, “ Data Security has gone from important to urgent as bank executives have added online banking and document imaging. If they lose that data, they’ll lose their bank.”
